From Igls, Austria
Alexsandr Zubkov knew that his RUS-1 sled needed a solid push to keep pace with Steven Holcomb. Holcomb set the fast push in both heats, and sat only .09 behind Zubkov after heat one. Zubkov’s second push equaled Holcomb’s 4.99, and from there it was just a matter of having a clean run. Zubkov had only a few slight errors, and found himself crossing the final timing line .06 ahead of Holcomb.
“I think today went pretty well. It showed with the two fastest starts in the race. I made a mistake and it cost us a few tenths,” Holcomb said of his second run. Holcomb had a bronze medal yesterday in two-man.
John Napier in USA-2 finished 12th.
