From Winterberg, GER
(Nov. 23, 2018) – Seunggi Jung rallied from third place after one heat to win his first ever Intercontinental Cup gold medal, beating German Kilian von Schleinitz in the process.
Jung came into the second heat in third place, behind von Schleinitz and British slider Marcus Wyatt. On the second run down Jung picked up .16 seconds over first run start, and cruised down the Winterberg track setting the fast time of the race at each split. Neither Wyatt nor von Schleinitz could answer the quick pace set by Jung, with the German taking silver and the Brit taking bronze behind Jung.
The gold medal was the first ICC gold for Jung. He’d previously won two gold medals in Calgary in North American Cup action.
Felix Seibel of Germany finished fourth in Friday’s event, with teammate Dominic Rady finishing fifth and Russian Egor Veselov finishing sixth.
Mike Rogals was the quick American in 14th place, with teammates Nathan Crumpton (16th) and Stephen Garbett (17th) finishing just behind him. For Canada, Patrick Rooney was the only slider in the top 20, finishing 18th. Kyle Murray and Mark Lynch finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
Craig Thompson finished tied for eighth as the second British slider.
