(USA Luge Press Release)
(July 17, 2017 – Lake Placid, USA) USA Luge continued to re-shape its staff for the approaching Olympic season Friday, when it announced the addition of Andre Florschuetz, of Germany, as a technology consultant. The agreement runs through the 2019-2020 season.
Florschuetz teamed with Torsten Wustlich for a 2006 Olympic silver medal in doubles. They added three World Championship gold medals over an 18-year career that ended in 2010.
The top U.S. doubles team of Matt Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman, who finished a team-high third in the final World Cup doubles standings last season, rode a Florschuetz-built sled in 2016-2017 to their best career ranking.
“From his years in the sport, Andre brings a lot of technical experience to our program,” said Mark Grimmette, USA Luge Sports Program Director. “In a sport timed to the thousandth of a second, every detail makes a difference. Andre’s eye and knowledge will add to our already outstanding technical programs.”
This long-term sled evolution is coordinated by Jon Owen, head of technical programs, in collaboration with Norton/Saint-Gobain, Dow and other partners.
The team’s continuing technological advances are being emphasized this off-season, with a return to the ice set for late September in Lillehammer, Norway.
