New Facilities for World Championship track in Altenberg

Altenberg (RWH) — Right on time before the Viessmann FIBT World Cup Bob & Skeleton in January 2012 and the 43rd Luge World Championships of the International Luge Federation, FIL, in February 2012, the bobsleigh and luge track in Altemberg will be extensively renovated. “The track will receive a modern, uniform and attractive appearance”, explained Michael Geisler, district administrator of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains, general owners of the sports complex. The medals at the FIL Luge World Championships will be awarded on February 10-12, 2012, the FIBT Worldcup will take place on January 02.-08.
The district, the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), and the Saxon Ministry for Culture and Sports (SMK) will invest more than a million euro for the renovation work. The works are scheduled to be completed at the end of September.
During the renovation, the complex will receive new facilities for the technical installations and machines. Additionally, there will be a visitor’s center to serve as a first port of call, there will be cash boxes and sanitary installations. Furthermore the building at the finish will be modernized and new rooms for the track workers set up.
