From Sochi, Russia
In what has become the standard for big races in men’s skeleton, Alexander Tretiakov and Martins Dukurs faced off for gold, miles ahead of anyone in third. This time, much like the Olympics one year ago, it was Tretiakov beating Dukurs on Russian ice. Tretiatkov came into the second run a tenth ahead of Dukurs, but his second run tied a start record, and was .31 faster at the bottom, and the Russian took gold yet again in front of a huge Russian crowd. Dukurs would settle for silver yet again on the Sochi track, while South Korean Sungbin Yun took bronze. Tomass Dukurs finished fourth, just ahead of Sergei Chudinov, who took fifth on home ice.
With his silver medal performance, Martins Dukurs wins his sixth World Cup overall title. The Latvian did no worse than silver in eight races this season.
Matt Antoine led the way for the United States tied for eighth with Matthias Guggenberger of Austria. Kyle Tress finished 13th, and Kyle brown 22nd.
Dave Greszczyszyn finished a season-best seventh place. Teammates Barrett Martineau and Evan Neufeldt finished 17th and 19th, respectively.
Dom Parsons finished tenth to lead the way for Great Britain, while ed Smith continues to rehab an injured leg, finishing 16th.
