From St. Moritz, SUI
Janine Flock came into Friday’s race never having won a gold medal in the World Cup, despite winning the European Championship in 2014. That all changed, as the Austrian put her best ever two runs together to take gold on the historic St. Moritz track.
Just behind her was Elisabeth Vathje of Canada. Vathje, who sat out Königssee, set the season’s track record, breaking the time set one run prior by Laura Deas of Great Britain. Deas finishes in the bronze position.
Lanette Prediger made it two Canadians in the top 4 with her fourth place finish, with Tina Hermann finishing fifth for Germany. Olympic champion Lizzy Yarnold finished sixth, while Jane Channell made it three Canadians in the top seven with a seventh place finish.
It was a tough day overall for the Americans. Savannah Graybill had a tough first run, but not nearly as rough as Annie O’Shea’s. O’Shea hit the roof in the Horseshoe turn, costing her over a second off her time. Graybill would finish 16th, O’Shea finished 23rd. Rose McGrandle finished 11th for Great Britain.
