From Sochi, Russia
Barring a major incident in the second day of women’s bobsled, the podium has just about already been set. It will be a three-way battle for gold, silver and bronze between Elana Meyers and Jamie Greubel of the USA, and Kaillie Humphries of Canada. Meyers leads the way, by .23 ahead of Humphries, while it’s then another .33 back from Humphries to Greubel. It’s another .49 from Greubel back to fourth place. All three teams could likely clean up their runs to find a bit more speed on day 2, as none really had a 100% clean trip down the Sochi track.
The Belgian sled piloted by Elfje Willemsen sits fourth, just ahead of Sandra Kiriasis in fifth. The team of Jazmine Fenlator and Lolo Jones are 11th going into Day 2.
Germany’s FIBT woes continue. Aside from Kirasis sitting in fifth, just .01 out of sixth, Cathleen Martini and Anja Schneiderheinze are eighth and ninth, respectively. Kirasis is .58 out of a medal.
Great Britain’s Paula Walker will go into the second day of women’s bobsled in 12th, while Jenny Ciochetti of Canada is one spot back in 13th.
