From Sochi, Russia
Much like with their men’s skeleton counterparts, the men’s bobsled race appears to have a “home ice advantage” feel to it. Alexander Zubkov leads European champion Beat Hefti by .32 seconds. The Swiss slider came into the second heat in third place, but leapfrogged World Cup champion Steven Holcomb to move to second. The American sits third, just .04 out of silver and .36 out of the lead.
Just Kripps has come on strong for Canada, he’s in fourth place, just .08 out of a medal, while Russian Alexander Kasjanov sits fifth, only .03 behind that. The winner of the 2013 Sochi four-man test event, Latvian Oskars Melbardis, sits sixth.
Cory Butner came into the second heat in third for the United States, but a bumpy run down moves him back to 11th, while Nick Cunningham had two very consistent runs, but sits back in 13th. The Canadians are all in the top 10, with Chris Spring eighth and Lyndon Rush ninth behind Kripps.
