From Königssee, Germany,
The Canadians hadn’t put a sled atop the two-man bobsled podium all season. Justin Kripps changed all that, taking his first ever medal in the process. Kripps had the fastest run in both heats to dominate the two-man event. Swiss slider Beat Hefti took silver, with two very good rns but just .15 off Kripps’s time. Lyndon Rush made it two sleds on the podium for Canada. Cory Butner led the way for the United States in fourth, with Rico Peter making it two Swiss sleds in the top five.
Overall it was a very good day for the United States. Nick Cunningham finished sixth, with teammate Steven Holcomb seventh. With his seventh place finish, Holcomb also wins the World Cup two-man title ahead of Hefti.
The final race in Europe of the FIBT calendar doubles as the European Championships, though by looking at the leaderboard you wouldn’t know it. All six North American teams put sleds in the top eight, with Chris Spring taking eighth for Canada, the lowest-finishing North American sled. Hefti won gold for the European Championships, with Peter silver and Oskars Melbardis of Latvia bronze.
John Jackson made his second cut of the year in two-man, finishing 20th for Great Britain. Look for Jackson to do better in the four-man event.
