From St. Moritz, Switzerland
Once again, Martins Dukurs made it look easy. In the second men’s skeleton race, the Latvian beat his brother Tomass by just over a full second to take gold. Tomass took second easily, while Canadian John Fairbairn took his first ever World Cup medal, a bronze. Sergei Chudinov took fourth for Russia, while British athlete Kristan Bromley fell from third to fifth, but scored his best finish of the 2013/2014 season.
It was a good weekend in all for the Americans. Matt Antoine once again led the way for the USA with a sixth place finish. John Daly rallied back from an awful Friday run with two decent runs to finish ninth. Teammate Kyle Tress finished fifth on Friday, but could only muster a 16th place finish on his Sunday run.
Aside from Fairbairn’s top five finish, Eric Neilson couldn’t quite crack the top 10, finishing 11th. Olympic champion Jon Montgomery had a better day than Friday, but finished tied for 17th.
Ed Smith continued to improve for British Skeleton, making the second heat in both races this weekend, finishing 19th on Sunday. Teammate Dom Parsons will be thrilled to leave St. Moritz, he finished 25th.
