From Winterberg, Germany
Sandra Kiriasis came into the second heat of her race in Winterberg in third place. Despite a slower start, the German had a perfect run down home ice and took gold from two hard-charging Americans. Elana Meyers and Lolo Jones had a tough push in their first heat, and came into the second heat in fifth place. A much-improved second push got her within .01 of gold, as one late hit off the next to last corner made the difference. Anja Schneiderheinze took bronze for Germany, while American Jamie Greubel and Canadian World Champion Kaillie Humphries finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Jazmine Fenlator made it three sleds in the top 10, finishing ninth for the United States. Canada’s Jennifer Ciochetti finished 14th, while Great Britain’s Paula Walker, Victoria Olaoye and Mica McNeill finished 13th, 17th and 22nd, respectively.
