Trouble with the start grooves led to a one-heat race in Lake Placid for the second women’s skeleton race of the weekend. In that one run, British slider Lizzy Yarnold put down the fast time to take gold. Austrian Janine Flock put her best run together ever, scoring her first ever podium taking silver, and Noelle Pikus-Pace took bronze after a disappointing push. Pikus-Pace’s push time was .3 behind Yarnold’s, with the final differential .45 between first and third. Olga Potylitsina of Russia finished fourth, while Swiss slider Marina Gilardoni finished fifth.
Mellisa Hollingsworth led the way for Canada in eighth, wihle teammmates Sarah Reid and Robynne Thompson finished 12th and 16th, respectively, while Donna Creighton and Shelley Rudman finished 9th and 11th for Great Britain.
