2013/2014 FIBT World Cup – Lake Placid – Men’s Skeleton

From Lake Placid, USA

Matt Antoine has done a lot of things for the US in his career in skeleton.  The one thing he hadn’t done is win a World Cup gold medal, but that all changed Friday.  Antoine set a blistering pace, and put down the fastest time in both heats to take gold over FIBT point leader Alexander Tretiakov of Russia.  A Latvian Dukurs was on the podium, but Tomass out-paced brother Martins to take bronze.  John Daly was second-fastest in the first heat, but a bumpy second run put Daly fourth, still out-pacing German Frank Rommel, who finished fifth.Mens Podium

Kyle Tress finished seventh for the US, making it the best race for the American skeleton team this season.  Meanwhile, John Fairbairn led the way for Canada with a strong second run to finish sixth.  Teammates Eric Neilson and Dave Greszczyszyn finished 14th and 26th respectively.

Great Britian’s Dom Parsons led the way for the British in a tie for 11th, while Kristan Bromley finished 18th and Ed Smith 24th.
