From Park City, USA
The timing lights stopped working briefly, and snow was a factor, but when it was all said and done, the United States took all the podium spots. Elana Meyers and Aja Evans had the top start in both heats and won easily despite one major hit late in the second run. Jamie Greubel and Jazmine Fenlator tied for silver, marking the best finish for both pilots this year. Germans Sandra Kiriasis and Cathleen Martini finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
“I was making a couple of mistakes, so I had no idea how fast we were going to come down. The greatest feeling isn’t necessarily the gold medal, it’s that the three of us (Meyers, Greubel and Fenlator) are all up here,” said Meyers of her second gold this weekend.
Snow kept the timing eyes from working a couple of times, with one Swiss and one Belgian sled both having to take re-runs. The snow was also a factor early as Kaillie Humphries was the first sled down and essentially plowed for the field. She’d finish seventh, marking the first time in 16 races that she didn’t finish on a podium. Her teammate Jenny Ciochetti finished 14th.
It was a consistent run for Paula Walker, with the British pilot finishing 8th. Teammates Mica McNeill and Victoria Olaoye finish 18th and 19th.
