Noelle Pikus-Pace was disqualified last week for what she felt was essentially a non-performance-based technicality. This week she left no doubt who owned the track in Park City. Setting track records in both her runs, the American ran away with the race, besting World Cup points leader Lizzy Yarnold by .68. Yarnold takes silver while Canadian Sarah Reid has a better run in the US than she did on home-ice in Canada with a bronze medal run. World Champion Shelley Rudman takes fourth place, finishing a hundredth of a second ahead of fifth place Michelle Steele.
“I just feel like today was about seeing what I was made of. I’ve been chasing this (the track record) for fifteen years…and I’m thrilled,” said Pikus-Pace on her gold medal.
American Katie Uhlaender continues to do the “race while rehabbing” thing, finishing 14th on a track she took gold on last season. Robynne Thompson and Cassie Hawrysh take 10th and 11th for Canada, while Donna Creighton finished 21st for Great Britain.
