From Igls, Austria
In the first race of the 2013/2014 season, the German team of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken took silver. This week in Igls, they did one better, taking gold while holding off teammates Wendl and Arlt. The Lillehammer gold medalists did manage to put down the fastest run in heat 2, but it wasn’t enough to unseat Eggert Benecken. The team of Penz and Fischler made it bronze for Austria in the second week in a row, rallying from a fifth-fastest run in heat 1. Oberstolz and Gruber take fourth for Italy, while race 1’s bronze medalists Linger and Linger take fifth.
American teams Niccum/Terdiman and Mortensen/Griffall both improved on their second runs with identical times to put them 14th and 15th, while the Canadian team of Walker and Snith took 12th.
