Germany went 1-2 today in the opening round of the FIL world cup in doubles. The team of Wendl and Arlt set the fast time in the first heat, and held off a fierce set of charges from Germans Eggert/Benecken and Linger/Linger of Austria to take gold in the first run of the Olympic year. Italians Oberstolz and Gruber came into the second heat in 13th, but put down a fourth-fastest second heat to take fourth overall. Russians Yuzkahov and Makhnutin round out the top five.
The lone American team of Matthew Mortensen and Preston Griffall took 13th despite a fifth fastest second run, while the Canadian team of Tristan Walker and Justin Snith finish 19th.
