From Sochi, Russia
It’s hard to believe, but the 2012/2013 World Cup season was slightly less successful for Martins Dukurs. He failed to win the World Championship, and also lost another race during the year. On the plus side, he wins today in Sochi and with his win he also picks up 100,000 euros for having won the final three WC stops of the year. Russian Alexander Tretjyakov can’t hold home-track advantage and finishes with a silver in the final race of the year, still a good showing with the Olympics less than a year away.
As it’s been for most of the season, the big race was for third. Tomass Dukurs, John Daly and Frank Rommel all had trouble in their first run. Rommel would pass both Daly and Dukurs to give Germany a bronze medal. Daly takes fourth for Team USA, while Dukurs gives Latvia a second top 5.
Good day overall for the Americans, with Matt Antoine and Kyle Tress 11th and 13th behind Daly’s fourth place finish. John Fairbairn is the top-ranked Canadian slider in ninth, Eric Neilson takes tenth and Jon Montgomery 12th. British Skeleton picked up a few spots with Ed Smith taking 14th, and Dom Parsons and Kristan Bromley tied for 15th.
