From St. Moritz, Switzerland
Track conditions played a huge role in the third heat of four-man bobsled from St. Moritz. Aside from leader Max Arndt, who set the fast time of the heat, the bulk of medal contenders found themselves with mid-ranked down-times. Leader after day 1, Alexander Zubkov, falls back to second, .36 out of the lead.
Possibly the best example of how much quicker the track got after the first five or so sleds is Rico Peter, who moves from tenth after heat 2 to third after heat 3. Peter will go into the final heat just .01 ahead of a tie for fourth between teammate Beat Hefti and British pilot John Jackson. American Steven Holcomb is sixth, just .05 behind the tie for fourth.
Nick Cunningham makes it two American sleds to make the final heat, going into the fourth heat in 19th, while rookie teammate Codie Bascue finishes 30th. It was a tough set of runs for the Canadians, with Lyndon Rush leading the way in 16th. Chris Spring makes the final heat in 18th, while Justin Kripps missed the top 20th by just over two tenths in 21st. Lamin Deen will join Kripps on the sidelines in 23rd.
