2013 FIBT World Championships – Four-Man Bobsled – Heat 2

From St. Moritz, Switzerland

Steven Holcomb and his Night Train crew had a few small skids in the top part of their second heat, but found a lot of speed at the bottom.  That, combined with a very tough run by Oskars Melbardis, puts Holcomb in third.  Swiss slider Beat Hefti makes a big move up to fourth, and is a hundredth behind the American team.

From fifth on back is where it’s once again incredibly tight. German Francesco Friedrich has fifth, but is just .03 ahead of countryman Manuel Machata, .04 ahead of Florschuetz, .05 ahead of British slider John Jackson, .07 ahead of Kasjanov and .09 ahead of Peter.

Outside of Steven Holcomb’s set of runs, it’s been a tough day for the American men.  Nick Cunningham had a much better second run, but could only make up one spot into 20th, while Codie Bascue fell back a few spots to 29th.

Lyndon Rush came into the second heat just a tenth behind fifth place, but Brown and Lumsen collided getting into the sled, causing Brown to almost fall out of the sled.  A clean run by Rush was just much slower because of the trouble with the load, and Rush falls back to 15th going into the second day of races.  Teammates Chris Spring and Justin Kripps will go into the third heat 18th and 22nd.

While John Jackson set the fast time in the second heat, Lamin Deen couldn’t make up any ground on the top 20, and will take his third heat starting .8 behind Cunningham in 23rd.
