From St. Moritz, Switzerland
Alexander Tretjaykov will go into day two of men’s skeleton as the leader, besting Martins Dukurs by .09 over the span of two runs. Dukurs had seemingly clean runs throughout Friday’s event, while Tretjyakov had a few taps on his second run, but the Russian took the advantage. Tretjyakov’s teammate, Sergei Chudinov, is third after two heats, .65 off the lead.
It’s over a second from first to fourth, which is where Tomass Dukurs is positioned. Dukurs was in the middle of a log-jam of sliders and was the standout of that group, jumping three positions to fourth. German Frank Rommel rounds out the top five in sixth.
Americans put down their best combination of runs this season, with John Daly going into day 2 in sixth, and Matt Antoine tenth. Olympic champion Jon Montgomery leads the way for Canada in seventh place with teammate Eric Neilson just two spots behind in ninth and John Fairbairn 19th after a strong second run. Kristan Bromley is the top British slider in 8th, with Dom Parsons 12th and Ed Smith 15th.
