From Deutschnofen, ITA
(February 22, 2025) – Matthias and Peter Lambacher cruised to victory in the season finale in Deutschnofen, but it wasn’t enough to wriggle the season title from Austrians Maximilian Pichler and Nico Edlinger.

The Italians took the lead in the first heat of the two-heat race by .81 over teammates Tobias Paur and Andreas Hofer. in their first run. Pichler and Edlinger were the last duo off the top in the heat, and slid to within .24.
It was more of the same in the second heat. Paur and Hofer slid to a substantial lead over Slovakia’s Gabriel and Samuel Halcin, but were immediately picked off by Pichler and Edlinger.
Matthias and Peter Lambacher gave up .02 to the Austrians off the top, but by the second split were once again ahead with a lead they would not give back, as the duo took their third gold of the 2024/2025 World Cup season, with Pichler and Edlinger silver and Pauer and Hofer fourth.
Halcin and Halcin were fourth, and Peter and Dominik Neupauer fifth.
While second place wasn’t enough for the race win, it was more than enough for Pichler and Edlinger to win the season title, the first by an Austrian doubles team in 18 years.
Lambacher and Lambacher were second overall, with Paur and Hofer third.
