Kindl and Shulte, who had won gold in their respective singles events earlier in the weekend, took the victory ahead of two German duos, led by Max Langenhan and Merle Fräbel in second, with Felix Loch and Julia Taubitz in third.

The United States’ Tucker West and Ashley Farquharson took the lead, with West pulling another strong start and Farquharson with a quick effort to pull ahead of Italy’s Leon Felderer and Nina Zöggeler.

Loch and Taubitz were next, and slid to the lead, one that held until Kindl and Schulte took their turn on the 2018 Olympic track and pulled to a commanding lead. That led held the remainder of the race. Langenhan and Fräbel slid within .022 from the 15th starting position for silver, with Loch and Taubitz bronze.

Latvia’s Kristers Aparjods and Kendija Aparjode were fourth, Austria’s David Gleirscher and Hannah Prock fifth, and West and Farquharson sixth.

The win gave Kindl a record third gold medal over the course of the race weekend. He took silver in the Mixed Doubles race, and gold in the men’s doubles, men’s singles, and mixed singles events.
