From Pyeongchang, KOR
(February 15, 2025) – Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl slid to gold in Pyeongchang on Saturday, as they came from behind to edge out Toni Eggert and Florian Müller by thousandths of a second.

Eggert and Müller were the leaders after the first heat, as part of a tight pack battling for gold that included 2018 Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, reigning world champions Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz, perpetual medal contenders Martins Bots and Roberts Plume, and Steu and Kindl.
In the second heat, Steu and Kindl threw down a huge run, the quickest of the day in fact, and plenty enough to take the lead from teammates Yannick Müller and Armin Frauscher.
Orlamünder and Gubitz were next, and while they were otherwise clean, they were unable to pick off the Austrians.
After Bots and Plume crashed and fell to the bottom of the order, Wendl and Arlt took their shot at the Austrians but were unable to catch them.
Finally it was Eggert and Müller. The duo, who had won the first race of the season, were ahead early. The timing and scoring showed them back and forth with Steu and Kindl all the way down the track, with the Germans falling behind at the finish by just .002, handing Steu and Kindl gold.
The win for Steu and Kindl was their first of the season despite no finish worse than fourth on the season thus far. Eggert and Müller won their third medal of the season with a silver, while Wendl and Arlt won their sixth straight medal with a bronze.
Orlamünder and Gutibz were fourth, Müller and Frauscher fifth, and Italy’s Ivan Nagler and Fabian Malleier sixth.
Zack Digregorio and Sean Hollander slid to seventh place, up from eighth in the first heat.
Steu and Kindl’s victory keeps them technically in the hunt for a gold medal, as they’re 85 points behind Wendl and Arlt. Bots and Plume are third, four points behind Steu and Kindl, with Eggert and Müller fourth.
