Heraskevych Wins Lillehammer Gold, Seibel Takes EC Crown

From Lillehammer, NOR

(February 14, 2025) – Like in the women’s race, a World Cup regular came into the Europe Cup finale and took gold, and like in that race it was a first time gold on the tour for Vladyslav Heraskevych.

The Ukranian was the quickest in both heats. After the first run he was .16 up on Europe Cup leader Felix Seibel, with Alexander Schlintner back in third a quarter of a second out of the lead.

In the second heat, Schlintner was able to solidify his position on the podium with a quicker slide that was enough to take the lead from teammate Florian Auer.

Seibel was up next, and while he couldn’t outslide Schlintner in the heat, his two-run combined time was enough to edge out the Austrian by just a hundredth of a second.

Heraskevych had slid well in the World Cup stop earlier in the season, and once again put down a pair of great runs in Lillehammer. His second was a hundredth quicker than his first and enough to win him gold, with Seibel silver, and Schlintner bronze.

The gold medal was Heraskvych’s first on the Europe Cup tour. His previous international gold medals had come in the IBSF sanctioned Ukranian National Championships in 2023, and the North American Cup stop in Whistler during the 2018/2019 season.

For Seibel, his second place finish was his sixth medal in eight races, while Schlintner’s bronze was his second medal in three Europe Cup races this season.

Auer was fourth, ahead of Latvia’s Emils Indriksons and Davis Valdovskis who were fifth and sixth, respectively.

Hunter Williams was the top American in 12th, up from 14th in the first heat. Andy Whittier was 16th, .04 from at top 15 finish, while Sam Allred and Darryl Payne both missed the second heat in 28th and 30th, respectively.

Like Julia Erlacher on the women’s tour, Felix Seibel had already wrappred up the Europe Cup title for the men, where he finished 166 points ahead of teammate Stefan Röttig. Florian Auer finished the season in third, 12 points behind Röttig, with Ludwig Mannhardt fourth and Wengang Yan fifth.
