From Lillehammer, NOR
(January 19, 2025) – The six race stop in Lillehammer concluded on Sunday with Arturs Klots holding back Christopher Stewart and Corie Mapp to win gold.
Klots had the lead by .1 over Mapp in the first heat, with USA’s Guillermo Castillo third, Stewart fourth, and Hermann Ellmauer rounding out the top five.
In the second heat, Ellmauer was picked off by Jonas Frei, then Stewart threw down what would be the fastest run of the heat to take over the lead.
Neither Castillo nor Mapp could match Stewart’s combined downtime, with Mapp getting within .02, as the Swiss pilot held the lead all the way until the final slider of the race.
Arturs Klots was .05 slower being pushed off the top compared to his first run. And his second drive was not nearly as clean as his first. But the Latvian had enough in the bank from the first heat to edge out Stewart by .06 to win his first gold of the 2024/2025 season.
Stewart won silver, his first medal of the year, while Mapp continued a strong season with a bronze medal for six straight medals to start the year.
Castillo was fourth, off of the podium by .13, while Frei was fifth and Ellmauer sixth.
Behind Castillo, Robert Balk was eighth for the United States, with Austin Parker, Dan Rizzieri and Gabi Cha rounding out the field in 15th to 17th.
