From Lillehammer, NOR
(January 18, 2025) – Corie Mapp continued a strong season to kick off the second half of the 2024/2025 Para Sport World Cup in Lillehammer with a victory over Latvia’s Arturs Klots.
Mapp and Christopher Stewart were tied for second, as they trailed Austria’s Hermann Ellmauer after the first heat by .12, with Klots well back in fifth place, .16 back.
In the second heat, Klots took the lead from Italy’s Flavio Menardi, then held it as Switzerland’s Jonas Frei couldn’t match his downtime. Stewart was next, and also failed to match Klots’ second run, as he fell out of the medals and into what would eventually be fifth.
Mapp was next, and once again put down a consistent run that would be the second quickest of the heat to take the lead from Klots with just Ellmauer to go.
The Austrian couldn’t answer, though. His first run has been clean, but his second never really got cleaned up as he fell from first to third in his second run, with Mapp taking gold by .02 over Klots.
The win for Mapp was his third of the season. For Klots, silver was his second in three races.
Frei was fourth, Stewart fifth, and Menardi rounded out the top six.
Robert Balk was the top American in seventh, just ahead of teammate Guillermo Castillo in eighth. Dan Rizzieri, Austin Parker, and Gabi Cha rounded out the field in 15th through 17th, respectively.
