Bujnowski Wins First EC Gold in Altenberg

From Altenberg, GER

(February 7, 2025) – Kristen Bujnowski held off a pair of strong German slides for her first Europe Cup monobob gold medal on Friday.

An always strong starter, Bujnowski outstarted all of the contenders by at least a quarter of a second in each heat. In her first run, Bujnowski opened up a quarter of a second lead over Germany’s Charlotte Candrix, with Leona Klein in third, a half of a second out of the lead.

On a significantly slower track in the second heat, Bujnowski still was quick off the top, again at least a quarter of a second ahead of anyone battling for gold. This time, Klein put down the quick time of the heat though, as she took the lead from the Netherlands’ Maja Voigt.

Klein’s better slide was only enough for bronze, however. Candrix slid into the lead after giving up .17 to her teammate. Bujnowski’s second run was quicker most of the way down, but some trouble below the Kreisel brought her back to the two Germans a bit, but not nearly enough to lose gold., with Candrix silver and Klein bronze.

The win for Bujnowski is her third monobob medal in as many Europe Cup events. She’d previously won silver and bronze in Igls in 2024.

Candrix’s sliver was her second medal in three races on the tour, while Klein’s bronze was her first medal in just her second start.

Voigt was fourth, with Diana Filipszki fifth, and Inola Blatty sixth.

Italian motorsports star Simona de Silvestro was eighth, Spain’s Leanna Garcia 11th and Jamaica’s Mica Moore 13th.

With six races remaining in the 2024/2025 Europe Cup women’s monobob season, Switzerland’s Inola Blatty is just two points ahead of teammate Selina Isler, with Leanna Garcia third, just over a hundred points back. Patricia Tajcnarova is fourth and Mica Moore fifth.
