2013 FIBT World Championships – Women’s Skeleton – Heat 1

From St. Moritz, Switzerland

In the team competition Sunday, Noelle Pikus-Pace set down a monster time and was expected to run well in the women’s skeleton race.  While the American did set down a good first time, it’s three-time St. Moritz winner Shelley Rudman who has the lead by just under a half second ahead of the American.  Last year’s St. Moritz winner Lizzy Yarnold is third, while defending world champion Katie Uhlaender sits fourth, just .01 ahead of Canadian Mellisa Hollingsworth.  Aussie Michelle Steele is sixth.

It was a really solid first heat all around for the North Americans, with Americans second and fourth, and Canadians fifth, tied for eighth (Sarah Reid) and 12th (Cassie Hawrysh).  Donna Creighton is the only British slider outside of the top 10 in 20th place.  Look to see Creighton move her way forward after a semi-disappointing first run.
