The race kicked off with runs by both Chinese teams, with the Canada-2 team of Theo Downey and Caitlin Nash taking over the top spot. They sat in the leaders box for two teams until teammates Dylan Morse and Caitlin Nash took over by nearly a tenth of a second.

That lead held until Ukraine’s Anton Dukach and Yulianna Tunytska handed the lead off to Poland’s Mateuz Sochowicz and Klaudia Domaradzka, who then gave the lead up to Americans Tucker West and Ashley Farquharson as USA-2.

West’s slide was the 6th quickest of the race, and Farquharson’s effort was one of the best of the race as the Americans took the lead from the 12th starting position and held it Sweden, Italy, the other American team and both Latvian teams all failed to match their effort.

It wasn’t until Austria-2, Nico Gleirscher and Lisa Schulte, put down a pair of quick and clean runs that the Americans were bumped out of the lead. They were quickly unseated by Germany-2, Loch and Fräbel.

Austria-1, Wolfgang Kindl and Madeleine Egle, were looking to give Kindl his fourth medal of the weekend after winning medals in men’s singles, men’s doubles, and the doubles mixed race. But neither athlete could quite match the pace of their teammates or Loch and Fräbel and found themselves third with the final German team to go.

Max Langehnan and Julia Taubitz were the Germany-1 team, and Langenhan went nearly neck-and-neck with Loch after his run. Taubitz couldn’t quite match Fräbel’s pace and the duo finished .182 back behind their teammates for silver, with Loch and Fräbel gold.

It was the first gold for either Loch or Fräbel in the two runnings of the mixed singles event.

Gleirscher and Schulte were bronze, less than a tenth ahead of teammates Kindl and Egle in fourth.

West and Farquharson had a strong fifth place finish as the first non-German or Austrian team.
