From Oberhof, GER
(January 26, 2025) – The German team of Tobias Wendl, Tobias Arlt, Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal slid to victory in Oberhof ahead of a very strong Austrian team.
The race kicked off with Italy’s Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner handing off to Nadia Falkensteiner and Annalena Huber with two clean runs to take the lead and hold it as Romania and Ukraine both couldn’t match their pace.
The Latvia-2 team of Martins Bots, Roberts Plume, Marta Robezniece and Kitija Bogdanova took over from the fourth starting spot, but a bit of a correction by Robezniece and Bogdanova left the door open for other teams after them.
After Poland had trouble in their run, the USA-2 team of Marcus Mueller, Ansel Haugsjaa, Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby came from behind to take the lead by a tenth and a half seconds over the Latvians, then held the lead ahead of teammates Zack Digregorio, Sean Hollander, Maya Chan and Sophia Gordon.
Both sleds in the second Italian team had maybe their best runs of the season, when Ivan Nagler and Fabian Malleier teamed with Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer to slide well into the lead ahead of the Americans then held the lead ahead of the second German squad to guarantee a medal.
Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl held their own against Nagler and Malleier but were a bit behind after their run. But Selina Egle and Lara Kipp were once again nearly flawless on their slide as the Austrians took over atop the leaderboard with only Germany to go.
But the Germany 1 team was just too much. Wendl and Arlt opened up a huge .4 advantage over the Austrians, and while Degenhardt and Rosnthal were out-slid by their Austrian counterparts they still had plenty of padding to take the victory over Austria, with the Italy 1 team.
