From St. Moritz, SUI
(January 26, 2025) – The warm winters continue and races in St. Moritz have been canceled.
Sunday’s two-woman and four-man IBSF World Cup races were canceled due to warmer temperatures overnight that didn’t allow the track to properly refreeze. The overnight air needs to be well below freezing to allow the track to refreeze, and it did not get to that point.
Further, it’s snowed. A lot. And at the time of this writing (3:15 AM ET / 9:15 AM local time), it’s still snowing heavily. With there being no cover over the track, putting together a fair race would have likely been impossible.
IBSF has not announced when/where the replacement races for St. Moritz will be.
The tour is off next weekend as it travels to Lillehammer for the final two race weekends of the World Cup season before heading to Lake Placid for World Championships.
