Kaillie Humphries is the defending world champion and defending Olympic champion, and the Canadian will go into the final heat with a big lead to defend her championship. It’s .51 back to Sandra Kirasis, who set the track record to leapfrog from fifth, while Elana Meyers sits third. Cathleen Martini and Anja Schneiderheinze round out the top 5, but the real battle is from second to fourth, where there’s only .06 seconds difference.
Jazmine Fenlator had a big skid at the top of her run and falls back to 10th (where she was after Heat 1), and a tough run for Jamie Gruebel moves her back to 14th for the US. Great Britain slider Paula Walker’s been working through a knee injury during the latter half of this season, and is 15th due in part to pushes that are below the standard she sets for herself. Teammates Victoria Olaoye and Mica McNeill both make the fourth and final heat in 17th and 20th, respectively. Canadian Jennifer Ciochetti is 18th.
