From St. Moritz, SUI
(January 25, 2025) – St. Moritz may be a Swiss track, but there’s a level of British sliding spirit with the track. For instance, curves are named after British bobsledders Tony Nash and Robin Dixon, St. Moritz Bobsleigh Club members who famously won gold in the 1964 Olympics in Innsbruck.
So it makes a bit of sense that St. Moritz is one of the happier hunting grounds for Brad Hall, who slid to four-man victory on the historic track on Saturday.
Hall led Francesco Friedrich by .13 after the first heat. Johannes Lochner sat third after the heat, .31 back in third.
Lochner’s team gave him a pair of starts that were second quickest in both heats on his way to a second heat lead with what would be the fastest run of the heat.
Friedrich was next. The German great had put down the quick runs of the season two weeks prior but had what was, by his standards, a bit of a bumpy run. While it was enough to take the lead from Lochner, it left the door wide open for Hall.
Hall’s team gave him another top five start, but the Hall found himself behind Friedrich early. Hall’s slide below the Horse Shoe curve was cleaner than Friedrich’s, though, and that was enough to have him pull ahead and win his second gold medal of the season, with Friedrich silver and Lochner bronze.
Hall’s win was the fifth of his career in the four-seater and second this season. For Friedrich, his silver was the 60th medal of his World Cup four-man career.
Lochner’s bronze was his 39th medal in four-man alone.
Swiss pilot Cedric Follador tied with Germany’s Adam Ammour for fourth, Follador’s best ever finish in World Cup four-man action. Ammour had entered the second heat tied with Italy’s Patrick Baumgartner, who finished sixth.
Frank Del Duca was the lone American pilot in the field, he finished 11, two positions ahead of Pat Norton of Canada in 13th. Taylor Austin placed his Canadian sled in 19th.
France’s Romain Heinrich made his return to the World Cup tour and finished 14th, up from 15th in the first heat.
With three races remaining in the World Cup four-man tour, Friedrich leads Hall by 51 points. Lochner is third, Ammour fourth, and Baumgartner fiffth.
