Meyers Taylor Wins Second Straight Monobob Gold in St. Moritz

From St. Moritz, SUI

(January 25, 2025) – Coming into the race weekend in St. Moritz, one of the very few things Elana Meyers Taylor had not accomplished was winning a World Cup monobob race.

By Saturday she’d won two.

The track was slightly over a half of a second slower on Saturday compared to Friday, but despite the different track conditions, Meyers Taylor took the lead from the sixth starting position and held the top spot for the remainder of the heat.

Behind Meyers Taylor, Germany’s Laura Nolte slid to second after one heat a day after a disappointing ninth place finish in the makeup race from a few weeks prior. Behind her was USA’s Kaysha Love, the bronze medalist from that race.

In the second heat Love put down a big second effort. She missed tying Sylvia Hoffman’s start record by a hundredth of a second, then set the quick downtime of the race to take the lead from Switzerland’s Deobra Annen.

Nolte went next and had an otherwise very good run. But she wasn’t able to match Love’s pace and finished .16 behind the American with Meyers Taylor to go.

With the gold medal clinched for the United States, Meyers Taylor pushed off .05 quicker than her first run, but was behind Love early on in her run. However, Meyers Taylor outdrove Love on the bottom half of the track and matched her teammate’s race-quickest downtime to win by .14, with Love silver and Nolte bronze.

The gold was Meyers Taylor’s fifth World Cup monobob medal and 20th gold medal as a pilot on the World Cup circuit. Love’s silver was her sixth monobob medal, while Nolte’s bronze gives her four of each medal in monobob action.

Annen matched a career-best with a fourth place finish, Kim Kalicki was fifth, while Lisa Buckwitz threw down a big second run to slide to sixth from 12th.

The United States placed three pilots in the top seven, with Kaillie Armbruster Humphries in seventh place. Sylvia Hoffman set the season’s start record in the first heat on her way to a 14th place finish.

Melissa Lotholz was the top Canadian in 11th place. Cynthia Appiah was 15th with a pair of top four starts, while Bianca Ribi was 21st, .02 ahead of Australia’s Sarah Blizzard.

With two races left on the IBSF World Cup monobob schedule, Lisa Buckwitz holds an 82 point lead over Laura Nolte, with Australia’s Bree Walker in third. Kaysha Love is fourth and Kim Kalicki fifth.
