Egle & Kipp Win 5th Straight

From Winterberg, GER

(January 18, 2025) – Selina Egle and Lara Kipp continued their dream season on the FIL World Cup tour with their fifth gold medal of the season.

As in the men’s doubles race, nearly half of the field set at least one time under the old track record of 43.496, set by Egle and Kipp. After one run, it was Egle and Kipp who reset the record after sliding to a .07 lead over Jessica Degenhardt and Cheynne Rosenthal.

In the second heat Degenhardt and Rosenthal slid to the track record, a 43.151, to take the lead ahead of Italy’s Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer with just the Austrians to go.

The Austrians saw their lead nearly disappear early in their second run, as they were outstarted by .05 by the Germans. But the duo put down a near duplicate of their first run and while their second run time wasn’t quite as quick as Degenhardt and Rosenthal, it was enough to take gold by .014.

The win by the Austrian duo was their fifth straight after a disappointing first race of the year in Lillehammer where they were off the podium.

“It’s incredible,” Egle told FIL media after the race. “It was really close, and we needed every bit of speed that we had.”

Degenhardt and Rosenthal took silver for the fifth time this season.

For Vötter and Oberhofer, their bronze was their first medal of the season after a number of medals and World Cup titles in the first couple of seasons together.

Germany’s Dajana Eitberger and Lena Matschina were fourth, their best finish as a duo, while Marta Robezniece and Kitija Bogdanova were fifth.

Anda Upite and Zane Kaluma rounded out the top six.

The United States put both of their sleds in the top ten. Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby slid to a somewhat disappointing seventh place finish, though they did set the start record in the first heat. Teammates Maya Chan and Sophia Gordon were eighth.

With three races to go in the 2024/2025 season, Egle and Kipp are 75 points ahead of Degenhardt and Rosenthal. Forgan and Kirkby sit third, with Robezniece and Bogdanova fourth and Vötter and Oberhofer fifth.
