From Lillehammer, NOR
(January 17, 2025) – For the second time in his career, Germany’s Laurin Zern slid to gold, this time as part of a German sweep of the podium in Lillehammer.
Zern was the 19th slider off in the first heat. He and brakeman Alexander Schaller had the quick start of the heat as Zern drove to the quick downtime, .03 ahead of teammate Tobias Dostthaler.
In the second heat, Dostthaler and brakeman Lukas Koller slid to the lead, .17 ahead of Alexander Czudaj and Henrik Bosse, a German one-two with Zern still to go.
Zern and Schaller once again had the quick start of the heat and were quickest at every split along the 1994 Olympic track on their way to a .35 second victory over Dostthaler, with Czudaj third for the German podium sweep.
Zern’s victory was his second, with his first coming in the 2023/2024 season in Sigulda, also in two-man bobsled.
Just off of the podium in fourth was Moritz Bollmann and Theo Hempel. Latvia’s Renars Grantins and Edgars Ungurs were the top non-German team in fifth, with Great Britain’s Nick Gleeson and Callum Dixon in sixth.
