From Lillehammer, NOR
(January 16, 2025) – Corie Mapp slid to his second win of the 2024/2025 Para Sport World Cup season, holding off Robert Balk and Hermann Ellmauer for the victory.
Mapp led Switzerland’s Christopher Stewart by .17 after the first heat. Balk sat third, .2 back, with Ellmauer well behind in seventh, .27 back.
In the second heat, Ellmauer slid to the lead from seventh, and held his lead for sled after sled, until Balk took over and guaranteed the USA a medal with two sleds to go.
Stewart was next, but had trouble early in his run and was unable to rally and fell out of the top five with Map to go.
Mapp was once again quick on a track that he’s been continually strong on over the years. His second run was .08 quicker than anyone else in the heat, and more than enough to win gold.
The win was Mapp’s 15th in World Cup action. Balk, the reigning world champ, took silver, while Ellmauer won bronze.
Castillo was fourth, .04 out of the medals, with Flavio Menardi fifth and Latvia’s Arturs Klots sixth.
USA’s Austin Parker finished 13th, with Dan Rizzieri 15th and Gabi Cha 17th in her second World Cup start.
