(January 11, 2025) – Selina Egle and Lara Kipp continued an outstanding 2024/2025 sliding season with another win, this time in Altenberg.
The Austrian duo took the lead from Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal in the first heat as they opened up a .308 advantage over their German counterparts.
Americans Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby slid to second in the heat, .013 ahead of the Germans and well back of the Austrians.
In the second heat, the Germans took the lead from Latvians Marta Robezniece and Kitija Bogdanova, and then held it as Forgan and Kirkby couldn’t make time on a snowy and windy track.
Egle and Kipp’s second effort was slower than their first, but still quicker than anyone else in the field as the slid to a .397 second victory over Degenhardt and Rosenthal, with Forgan and Kirkby third.
It was the fourth straight win for the Austrians after dropping the season opener to Forgan and Kirkby.
Robezniece and Bogdanova took fourth, ahead of Latvian teammates Anda Upite and Zane Kaluma.
Germany’s Dajana Eitberger and Lena Matschina had the fourth quickest slide of the second heat to move from ninth to sixth.
Maya Chan and Sophia Gordon took the ice for the second time in the 2024/2025 World Cup season and slid to an eighth place finish, while Canadians Beattie Podulsky and Kailey Allan were 15th.
With four races left in the 2024/2025 World Cup season, Selina Egle and Lara Kipp have a 60 point advantage over Jessica Degenhardt and Cheynne Rosenthal. Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby are just ten points behind the Germans in third, with the Latvian teams of Marta Robezniece and Kitija Bogdanova fourth and Anda Upite and Zane Kaluma fifth.
