Maximilian Arndt set the fast time in each heat, winning the final gold medal before World Championships. Despite being out-pushed by his top-five counterparts, Arndt out-drove the field to win by .16. Swiss pilot Beat Hefti edged German Thomas Florschuetz for silver on the strength of the second best start, while Florschuetz makes it two podium spots for Germany. Alexander Zubkov finishes fourth, Latvian Oskars Melbardis set a new push record on the way to fifth, and British pilot John Jackson ties with German Manuel Machata for sixth.
Another tough day for the Americans. Steven Holcomb led the way in 17th for USA, with Nick Cunningham finishing 20th and Cory Butner 23rd. In general, it was a bad day for North America. Lyndon Rush came into the second heat in seventh, but finishes 10th. Justin Kripps and Chris Spring of Canada both didn’t make the second heat; Kripps finished 22nd and Spring 24th. British pilot Lamin Deen put forth a career-best 19th place finish in the second GBR sled.
