Flock Wins Second Straight

From St. Moritz, SUI

(January 10, 2025) – Going into the race in Sigulda it had been a couple of seasons since Janine Flock had won a World Cup race. This time she didn’t have to do much waiting, as one week later she won again in St. Moritz.

Flock led Brazil’s Nicole Silveira and Belgium’s Nicole Silveira after the first heat. The trio were well ahead of Great Britian’s Tabitha Stoecker, who was fourth at the head of a tight field behind her.

In the second run, Meylemans out-slid teammate and fiancée Silveira to take the lead and guarantee herself a silver medal, with only Flock to go.

Flock came into the race with three wins in St. Moritz, but none since January of 2018. Her second start was .05 quicker than her first, but she was behind Meylemans early in her run. From the famous Horseshoe curve onward, though, Flock outslid everyone on her way to her second straight victory of the season and fourth in St. Moritz.

Meylemans’ silver was the eighth medal of her World Cup career, while Silveira’s bronze was her second World Cup medal.

Tabitha Stoecker put down the quick start in both heats and briefly held the season’s track record in the second heat on her way to a fourth-place finish. The always-consistent Kimberley Bos was fifth, while Jacqueline Pfeifer rounded out the top six.

Kelly Curtis led the way for the United States in seventh, her best finish since returning from maternity leave. Mystique Ro slid into the top ten from 13th in the first heat and finished ninth on the strength of two top five starts. Katie Uhlaender, the bronze medalist last season in St. Moritz, finished 21st, while Sara Roderick rounded out the American effort in 23rd.

Jane Channell was the top Canadian in the field with a 13th place finish, three spots ahead of Hallie Clarke in 16th. Grace Dafoe scored a World Cup career-best finish with a 24th place finish.

Amelia Coltman moved up from 15th in the first heat to finish 11th, while Freya Tarbit slid from 20th to 17th.

With one race to go in the World Cup skeleton season, Janine Flock holds a 90 point advantage over Hannah Neise, while Kimberley Bos sits third, 117 points back and the only other slider who can catch Flock. Jacqueline Pfeifer is fourth, and Amelia Coltman fifth.
