2012/2013 FIBT World Cup – Round 8 – Two-Man Bobsled

From Igls, Austria

Beat Hefti will go into the World Championships as the last two-man winner.  Hefti had a small margin going into the second heat, but managed to hold off Thomas Florschuetz and Francesco Friedrich, who finish second and third for Germany.  Latvia’s Oskars Melbardis finishes fourth while Cory Butner rounds out the top five with what can be considered his best pair of runs on a European track ever.  Lyndon Rush finishes sixth, just .06 behind Butner.

Nick Cunningham made it two USA sleds in the top 10 with a ninth place finish, while Steven Holcomb couldn’t overcome a tough run in the first ever trip down ice in a new BMW sled, and finished 14th.

It was a great day for the Canadians in general with Rush leading the way.  Chris Spring finished 8th, while Justin Kripps finished 11th on his first full European season.  Not such a good day for Great Britain, with John Jackson finishing an uncharacteristic 21st, while Lamin Deen finished 23rd.
