From Park City, USA
(December 7, 2024) – The United States’ Andrew Whittier-Neises cruised to victory on Saturday in the fourth round of the North American Cup.
The American was .68 up after the first heat ahead of Taiwan’s Lin-Wei Peng and .97 ahead of Canada’s Marc-Antoine Vigneault.
In the second heat, Taiwan’s Chun-Hung Chiang slid to the lead and held it after Vigneault’s second run.
Chiang’s teammate Peng took the lead from there with just the American still to go.
Whittier-Neises put together a run similar to his first, and while his downtime wasn’t as quick as his first, it was still quicker than anyone else in the race as he slid to a 1.19 second victory, his second of his career and second in a row.
Peng took silver, and Chiang bronze.
Vigneault missed out on a medal by .18, tied with Israel’s Jared FIrestone, with Josip Brusic in sixth.
The United States had another strong showing in Park City, with Baden Park in eighth, and Tyler Lutz and Noah Park tied for tenth. Nicholas Brooks finished 12th and Tony Furnells in 17th.
For Canada, Sebastian Regnier finished 13th, Nicholas Dunn, and Massimo Ardizzoni 18th.
At the halfway point of the 2024 North American Cup season, Andrew Whittier-Neises sits one point ahead of Jared Firestone. Josip Brusic sits third, with Jeff Bauer and Lin-Wei Peng rounding out the top five.
