From Lillehammer, NOR
(December 7, 2024) – Austria’s Julia Erlacher rallied from behind to win the second Europe Cup race of the 2024/2025 season.
Erlacher trailed Germany’s Viktoria Dönicke by just .05 after the first heat, with the remainder of the field over .3 back.
In the second heat Erlacher put down the quickest time of the heat to take the lead over Latvia’s Marta Andzane with Dönicke to go.
For the second time in as many runs, Dönicke had the quick push time of the race, but for the first time this season the German made a mistake in her run. Her second run ended up tenth quickest of the heat, good enough for a bronze medal, but well behind Erlacher.
Erlacher’s victory was the second of her career.
Marta Andzane put together two consistent runs, which was enough to move to second place for her first career Europe Cup silver medal, .05 ahead of Dönicke, who won bronze, tied with Austria’s Annia Unterscheider, who also scored a career best with her bronze.
The United States’ Michelle Toukan scored a fifth place finish, tying a career-best.
Selina Frohberger rounded out the top six for Germany.
Leah Kidd was the top British slider, tied for tenth. Teammate Regan Walker took 23rd place, up from 25th in the first heat.
