2012/2013 FIBT World Cup – Round 8 – Men’s Skeleton – Heat 1

From Igls, Austria

About a season ago I ran out of ways to explain how much better than everyone else Martins Dukurs is.  To demonstrate it today, the track’s been described as a little slow and sticky this weekend.  Dukurs is having none of that and has broken his own track record and has put .38 between himself and second place.   Alexander Tretjyakov is second, and he has .38 between he and teammate Sergei Chudinov.  Tomass Dukurs and Frank Rommel round out the top 5.

It’s been a tough weekend for the American men, but all three will take a second heat.  Matt Antoine leads the way in 14th, while John Daly and Kyle Tress are 17th and 19th.

Possibly the biggest surprise of the heat is Eric Neilson, who has been fighting the flu all week.  He’s he top-ranked Canadian in 6th, while teammates Jon Montgomery and John Fairbairn sit tied for 7th and 12th, respectively.  Kristan Bromley and Dominic Parsons are tied for 10th, while teammate Ed Smith sits 15th going into Heat 2.
