From Park City, USA
(December 6, 2024) – Andrew Whittier-Neises slid to his first career gold medal on Friday, holding off Taiwan’s Lin-Wei Peng for top honors.
Whittier-Neises took the lead in the first heat, .25 ahead of Peng with Israel’s Jared Firestone back in third, .45 behind the American.
In the second heat Firestone put down a run that nearly matched his first heat effort to guarantee him a medal. Peng was next, and he guaranteed his first career NAC medal with a heat-quickest slide.
The final slider of the race was Whittier-Neises. His second run wasn’t quite as quick as his first, but tied Firestone’s second heat downtime and was enough to give him both his first medal and first gold, with Peng silver and Firestone bronze.
Taiwan had a strong showing in Park City, with both sliders in the top four. Chun-Hung Chiang moved up from fifth to fourth, just ahead of USA’s Noah Park in fifth.
Canadian Josip Brusic rounded out the top six.
Baden Park finished seventh for the United Stats, with teammates Dylan Burris in 11th, Tyler Lutz in 14th, and Lukas Kissell in 16th. Both Parks, Burris, and Lutz all had or tied career-best finishes.
Canada placed two sliders in the top ten, with Jacob Coleman sliding into tenth place. Sebastien Regnier finished 13th, Massimo Ardizzoni 17th, Andrew Pidwerbesky 18th, and Zander Greco 20th.
