From Park City, USA
(December 4, 2024) – A day after being edged out by teammate Geoff Gadbois in Park City, Kris Horn slid to gold in the two-man bobsled event.
Horn and brakeman Hunter Powell set the quick start of the first heat, and Horn drove them to the quickest splits of the competition on their way to a .16 lead over Gadbois and Boone Niederhofer.
In the second heat it was Gadbois and Niederhofer who were quickest off the top, and had the quick splits everywhere down the 2002 Olympic track to take the lead from Canada’s Pat Norton.
Horn and Powell were a little slower off the top in their second effort, but Horn drove them to within a hundredth of a second of Gadbois’ second run downtime, enough to win gold, with Gadbois taking silver.
Norton and Keaton Bruggeling finished with a bronze medal, .22 ahead of teammates Taylor Austin and Chris Ashley in fourth.
Great Britain’s Joshua Hudson and Jens Hullah finished fifth, with AJ Edelman and Regnars Kirejevs taking sixth for Israel.
Canada’s Cyrus Gray finished seventh, Brazil’s Edson Bindilatti eighth, USA’s Grady Mercer ninth, and Jay Dearborn tenth for Canada.
USA’s Shane Fisher finished 12th to round out the American effort.
With four races to go in the North American Cup two-man bobsled season, Geoff Gadbois holds a 12 point lead over Taylor Austin. Kris Horn and Pat Norton sit tied for third, 48 points behind Gadbois.
