(November 29, 2024) – Kendall Wesenberg won the second race in the North American Cup second with a decisive win over the field.
Wesenberg, in her second race back from spinal fusion surgery, opened up a 1.1 second lead over Columbia’s Laura Vargas in the first heat. Katie Tannenbaum of the US Virgin Islands finished the first heat in third, just ahead of USA’s Sha’Londa Terry in fourth.
In the second heat, Terry put down the quickest start of the race and had a quick slide going early. Trouble late dropped her down the order as she eventually finished seventh.
Tannenbaum was up next, and bettered her second heat’s effort to take the lead and guarantee her second medal in as many days. She held the lead for about two minutes, until Vargas’ second effort unseated her by just .02.
Wesenberg was the last slider off the top. Her second push was a tenth of a second quicker than her first, and while her second slide wasn’t quite as her first it was still more than enough to take victory by 1.83 over Vargas, with Tannenbaum in third.
American Logan Wudi jumped up from seventh in the first heat to fourth, as she edged out Finland’s Hannah Russwurm by .04, with Russwurm in fifth. Liesel Baker rounded out the top six for the United States.
Terry finished seventh, ahead of teammate Hannah Gaskins in eighth. Mackenzie Adams of Canada rounded out the field.
The IBSF North American Cup makes its way to Park City for the next four races of the season before heading to Lake Placid later this season.
