Austin Wins NAC 4-man Opener

(November 25, 2024) – Taylor Austin won his third straight North American Cup bobsled race to start the season as he beat out teammate Cyrus Gray for gold in four-man bobsled.

Austin’s team gave him the third quickest start in both heats, and the experienced pilot rewarded them with the two quickest drives in the race on their way to a half-second victory.

Austin has been dominant when he’s competed on the NAC tour in four-man bobsled. He hasn’t finished off of the podium in 19 consecutive races, scoring 14 gold medals over that span.

For Gray, the silver medal came in his first four-man race as a pilot. His team gave him the quick start in both heats.

Brazilian Edson Bindilatti won bronze, only .03 behind Gray, for his fifth straight medal in the discipline.

Canada took four of the top five spots in the race, with Pat Norton and Jay Dearborn in fourth and fifth, both well ahead of the United States’ Grady Mercer, who rounded out the top six.

Israel’s AJ Edelman finished seventh for his best four-man finish in Whistler.

Aussies Cam Scott and Rhys Peters finished eighth and ninth in their first starts as pilots in four-man bobsled.
