From Königssee, Germany
Alexander Zubkov lost his lead for the World Cup rankings, mostly due to sitting last weekend out to train in St. Moritz. The Russian came back with a vengeance today to win the four-man competition in Königssee. Maxmilian Arndt hangs on for silver despite solid runs by teammates Thomas Florschuetz and Manuel Machata, who finish third and fourth. Latvian Oskars Melbardis finishes fifth.
Much like in the two-man competition, Steven Holcomb and USA1 had a very clean run but the speed just wasn’t there. Holcomb would have to settle for a tie for seventh with Switzerland’s Rico Peter. Cory Butner finished 17th and Nick Cunningham T-21st for the USA.
Canadian Lyndon Rush came into the second heat tied for fifth, but a rough second rn placed Rush 9th. Teammate Justin Kripps had a very solid set of runs to finish just outside the top 10 in 12th, while Chris Spring tied Cunningham in 21st. British Bobsleigh pilot John Jackson has a much better second heat and moves up to 10th, while Lamin Deen gets credit for 23rd.
